MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - SCOPE, SALARY, JOB
PROSPECTS, TOP COLLEGES
SCOPE OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING:-
Mechanical Engineers can work in Automobile
industry (Production Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer, Design Engineer,
Purchase Engineer, PPC Engineer etc), Thermal power industry(Production
Engineer, QA Engineer, PPC Engineer) , Gas turbines industry(Maintenance
Engineer, Fire & Safety Engineer, Site Engineer), Textile Industries
(Maintenance Engineer), Air conditioning and refrigeration industry (HVAC
Engineer, Site Engineer, Safety
Engineer, Design Engineer, Maintenance Engineer), Research field (ISRO -
Scientist, DRDO – Scientist), Oil and gas exploration and refining industries
(Maintenance Engineer, Safety Engineer), Agricultural sector (Production
Engineer, QA Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Safety Engineer), Educational
sector (Lecturer – B.Tech, Assistant Professor – M.Tech, Associate Professor –
P.hd, Professor – P.hd with relevant experience), Aviation companies
(Production Engineer, QA Engineer, Design Engineer, Maintenance Engineer,
Safety Engineer, Purchase Engineer) , Shipping industries (Engine room
Engineer), Aerospace industry (Production Engineer, QA Engineer, Design
Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Safety Engineer, Purchase Engineer), Armed
forces (Production Engineer, QA Engineer, Design Engineer, Maintenance
Engineer, Safety Engineer, Purchase Engineer), pharmaceutical (Maintenance
Engineer, HVAC Engineer)and many others.
Students can also go for a teaching career
after mechanical engineering. This will include teaching subjects in mechanical
engineering in engineering colleges.
The package is good for professors of this branch of engineering.
MECHANICAL
ENGINEERING – SALARY RANGE:-
The typical salary range of a Mechanical
Engineer range between (1.8 LPA – 3.2 LPA) However,
the salary differs as per the location, industry type, company level. If you
are hired by a Multinational Company, you can expect high salary package
(3.2 LPA – 4.8 LPA). Similarly, good campus placements also fetch better salary
packages (2.4 LPA – 5.2 LPA).
Additionally, some companies offer salary on the
basis of your skills, experience, expertise and the nature of roles and
responsibilities handled previously. Generally, highly skilled and professional
mechanical engineers can bag as high as an annual CTC (5.2 LPA – 8.0 LPA)
JOB PROSPECTS:-
Mechanical
Engineering finds applications in all fields of technology. The main job of a
mechanical engineer is to make things work. These “things” can be
car engines, airplanes engines, power plants, air conditioners, lawn mowers or
even exercise equipment’s.
Mechanical engineers can thus get employed in nearly every industry whether private or public sector, with most working for manufacturing firms and a considerable number, working in consulting services. They can get employed in government departments like
Mechanical engineers can thus get employed in nearly every industry whether private or public sector, with most working for manufacturing firms and a considerable number, working in consulting services. They can get employed in government departments like
- Defense
- PWD
- CPWD
- Technical wings of armed forces
- Space research organization
- Industries like the aeronautical, agricultural, automobile, chemical, bio-medical equipment manufacturers, energy, power, electronics, steel, oil exploration and refining, railways, etc.
Once you have a
degree in mechanical engineering in hand, you can then pursue a career in any
related occupation like aerospace engineer, aeronautical engineer, automotive
engineer, architect, nuclear engineer, tool designer, and many other such
options. Those who are interested in R&D activities can get employed with
many public/private sector research organizations. Academically inclined ones
can also choose teaching in technical institutions as a remunerative
profession. With the rapid rate of expansion in the industrial sector, the
employment potential for a mechanical engineer has become very high.
